Bordeaux Bordeaux fr

Only one hour from Paris by plane, and two hours by train (TGV), Bordeaux, the capital of southwestern France and the European Best Destination 2017, is among France's most exciting, vibrant and dynamic cities. Surrounded by some of the world's most famous vineyards and France's second largest Atlantic port, Bordeaux is an elegant city with stunning 18th century architecture, tree lined boulevards and a culturally vibrant centre to rival even Paris.

The city of Bordeaux’s inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007 and its bold modernism have made it a key destination for everyone interested in French culture, lifestyle... and wine!

Bordeaux is the ideal base for exploring wine châteaux of Médoc, St Emilion and Bordeaux, fringed by the largest pine forest in Europe, just 45 minutes from Arcachon Bay (famous for its delicious seafood and oysters!) and superb beaches. The Basque Country and Spain are only 2 hours away.

Many discovery tours and gourmet strolls are offered in order to taste the local produce, and particularly the prestigious wines. Every two years, the Bordeaux Wine Festival takes place in the last week of June. It was the first tourism event for wines in France, and it is a very unique program which boasts many simultaneous festivals. Bordeaux, look no farther!

THINGS NOT TO BE MISSED IN BORDEAUX

La Cité du Vin, a world of cultures : The purpose of this museum is to create a space where sensory experiences are centered wholly around wine. This site is fully dedicated to this "nectar," as a living piece of French history and culture. This architectural masteripece, anchored on the banks of the Garonne River, boasts an impressive exterior. A shining, 180 foot beacon, the facade of the building is constructed from glass pannels and perforated aluminium.  This monument resembles a knotted grapevine, rooted in a glass base representing the nearby Garonne River.

Darwin Ecosysteme : This 20,000 m2 former military barracks on Quai des Queyries on the right bank is constantly bubbling with activity. It acts as a green economy hub, featuring an urban farm, an XXL skatepark, free expression spaces for graffiti artists, an organic grocery, Le Magasin Général restaurant, co-working spaces, a bike-polo field, and a wellness centre (Le Bivouac), with a charming «found» décor.

NEW

In summer 2018, Bordeaux will officially open its new Museum of the Sea and Seafaring. This 13,000 m² centre securely docked alongside the city’s historic port will welcome visitors on a quest to explore the entire history of the maritime adventure.
