Reopening of the Musée de l’Homme in Paris
Mankind is evolving, as well as its museum, with its grand reopening on the 17th October 2015.
A journey through the discovery of Mankind, from its origins to its future
The new museum presents prehistoric, biological and cultural anthropology collections all in the same place, as well as being a centre for teaching and research on the evolution of Mankind and society.
Associated with the National Museum of Natural History, the Musée de l’Homme is at the heart of a multidisciplinary scientific network.
A place to debate, an open space for all
This privileged place addresses the major questions of the Human Science today.
Enjoy vast areas of exchange and life: atrium, auditorium, resource centre, and educational workshops.
Man’s Evolution
From a biological, social and cultural perspective, the permanent exhibition works with three main themes:
- Who are we?
- Where did we come from?
- Where are we headed?
With the goal of understanding the human race and its place in the living, to tell of our origins and to question our margins for adaptation in tomorrow's world.
The exhibition draws on priceless collections: fossils of Neanderthal and Cro-Magnon men, Paleolithic statuettes, anatomical wax-models... The prehistoric and anthropologic collections at the Musée de l'Homme in Paris are among the largest in the world.
You will find both elements of knowledge and understanding, and also discover that other cultures have different approaches to these questions, different reflections on our cultures, and other responses to them.
The museum spaces
The permanent exhibition is laid out in a continuous path that curves around within the two large main rooms of the building.
The Atrium acts as a crossroads between the permanent and temporary displays, linking all of the exhibition spaces together.
