Biarritz “le Phare” golf course
Originally, it was called the British Golf Club. Taking advantage of the Basque coast, in 1887 the British wanted to recreate England in a small corner and play their favourite sport on the plateau of Phare de Biarritz: the area which surrounds the lighthouse (the “Phare”).
In 1988, the architect Willie Dunn, created an 18-hole course. The Biarritz “le Phare” golf course was born, taking its name from the lighthouse itself, and the surrounding area.
A top 8 French favourite
Since then, the course has made a reputation for itself. Its most recent recognitions are 3rd best kept golf course and 4th best greens (Golf Magazine / October 2015 “listing of favourite golf courses of the French”)
Biarritz is a truly great place to golf: the Biarritz le Phare golf course is now part of Golf Pass, consisting of the top 8 French favourite golf courses.
- 18 holes | 84 acres | 5402m | Par 69
This stunning 18-hole course is perfected integrated on the sea front, with a mix of both natural and urban surroundings. The difficulty - just like its beauty – is clear on this hilly Basque coast golf course.
This is a technical and very sporty course, and definitely not an easy win! Built upon a sandy terrain, note the 70 bunkers to contend with. The greens are fast, and the rough is very slight.
The pleasant climate makes for a great game on this course at any time of year.
