9 novel ways to enjoy the Alps this winter Megeve fr

Take a flight in a glider and discover the mountains from another angle. Whether you’re in Courchevel, La Clusaz or Chamonix, try a range of fabulous activities from snowboarding to bobsleigh, a paret (read on to find out what that is!) and paragliding. Here’s our selection of original activities in the resorts of the Alps. These snowy mountains are not just for skiing!

Air board at Courchevel

An air board is a large inflatable sled that you lie down on and steer by the angle of your body as you slither down the piste, it’s a bit like body boarding. Slide head first, and you’ll hurtle over the snow at full speed, but take care with the spray, it can get messy!

Paragliding in Chamonix

Seeing the peaks of the snowy mountains from the sky is a fascinating experience for those who aren’t afraid of heights. Suspended from a canopy and carried by the wind, you’ll experience a sense of freedom, total tranquillity and lightness. Suitable for flyers of four years and upwards. Excitement is guaranteed.

Downhill paret at La Clusaz

A paret is a small wooden sledge with a single skate and a handle for direction. The modern version, a yooner, is equipped with a brake and more comfortable seat. Hit the tracks on a paret to get a new perspective on sledging!

Skijoring in Méribel

Pulled by a horse or dogs, discover the latest winter sensation – skijoring or ski-hitching! It was initially used as a means of transport for mountain farmers. A gentle ride is recommended for beginners but for seasoned skiers, a fast slide provides a truly athletic thrill. It’s definitely one to try.

Rail sledging at Alpe d'Huez

A brand new activity in Alpe d'Huez, the rail sledge promises thrills for young and old. On rails about about a metre above ground, the descent run twists and turns with plenty of variation in height and speed. True thrill-seekers can increase the excitement factor with a virtual reality helmet – exhilaration alert!

Bobsleigh at La Plagne

Excitement junkies will love the Bobsleigh track at La Plagne, Paradiski. 19 turns on a sloping run of 1.5km at speeds of up to 120 km/h. It doesn’t get much more thrilling that that. An outstanding and extraordinary experience.
